CSR US Social Responsibility: Girl Scouts of the USA
CSR's Katie Donovan from our Detroit office, has been working with the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, a local organisation chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA that provides support for Girl Scouting and Girl Scout Troops with over 40,000 girls, in Southeastern Michigan.
CSR donated funds to this charity in 2010 and the money has allowed the girls to take part in activities that would not have otherwise been possible. Michigan has been very badly affected by the recession, so this additional help has been invaluable to them.
The Michigan troop comprises of 23 girls which meet every two weeks. With the funding, they will be able to take a month long class called “Fun with Science”, attend a seminar called “1, 2, 3, There’s an Engineer in Me”, experience an overnight “camp in” at the Detroit Science Center, as well as many other learning opportunities.
Katie says, “The girls have asked that we donate some of those funds to our community which can provide a better swing set at the playground, plant flowers, etc. I am proud to be a part of this! It is my hope that these girls can build strong, hands-on foundations to become future female leaders and meet the growing need for skilled science and technology professionals in the United States”.
